In order to become and stay successful, motivation is one of the most important thing. Because if you’re not motivated enough, you stop working, start working on useless things or just start killing time.
In order to stay motivated you need to keep the big picture in mind. I know how easy it is to lose the big picture, even if just for a day. But even one day is one lost day.
Be sure to have a set of goals written down and never forget them. If necessary, read them out loud every day or even twice a day. And never think that something is not possible, usually everything is possible. In one way or another. Never get frustrated or depressed, this won't take you anywhere (well, actually it does, it takes you to somewhere you don't want to go).
I often find myself in search of motivation to do something useful, usually it happens when I’m at my home. I don’t need an office for my work, thus I don’t have one. I can work anywhere where I have access to internet. But home is often the place with most distractions and even without the distractions I can’t seem to get myself to stick to work. So I have found that if I feel I’m not working even though I’m supposed to, I’m going out to some cafeteria where there’s wireless internet. I take my laptop with me, order a coffee or five and I can work 7 hours in a row if needed, in a cafeteria. And yes, 7 hours is a lot for me as I usually work less.
I don’t know why it’s so, but every time I leave home I feel everything falling into place again and once I sit down in a cafeteria I’m always eager to work. Don’t ask me why – I
live in a nice apartment, there’s no hostile woman keeping me distracted nor anything else. But still, even though sometimes I can work there, I do most of my work outside. It takes money but I’m also a lot more prductive outside.
So if you have the same problem – just can’t find the needed motivation to get your work done then firstly, think of your goals and keep the big picture in mind. Secondly, try different places – home, cafeteria and office (if you have one) – see where you get the most work done. You might be surprised to see the difference in your productivity.
