Reading and learning is great – it makes you smarter and gives you new ideas, often you can find the ideas not in the books themselves but from between the lines when two wires just happen to get together in your brain. But like I mentioned in my previous post, in my case (I bet in case of many of you as well) reading all those books changed something, and the change wasn’t really positive.
While I still believed that I believed in the same things that I believed in during my high school years, I actually didn’t. My motto, my main belief, the me, used to be the guy who believed in EIP. Who believed that Everything Is Possible. I had learned and learned and learned and I realized that all this knowledge had ruined the way I think. I knew too much of how things are working in this world. I had heard, I had read too much about how things should be done. Can you see the problem here? If you start from the knowledge of how things should be done or what is the only way they could be done and how they definitely can’t be done then you never try anything new. But success is based on new things, success is based on new ideas, new way of doing things.
I mentioned my problem was not overlearning, I stand by it. The better way of putting it is learning the wrong things was the problem. It’s good to know the basics of the things you work with, not only is it good, but it is necessary. But only the basics, the knowledge you need. But the answer to the questions HOW or WHAT or WHY NOT need to come from yourself. If you believe someone telling you that this system definitely works or this concept definitely doesn’t work or this money-making strategy is the only way to make money or...then all it really does say is that for that particular person it did not work. Or even for those 10, 100 or 1000 people. But they might have got just one tiny thing wrong not to make it work. Maybe they didn’t have the one team member you have, maybe the timing was bad, maybe the decade was wrong.
What I am trying to say here – don’t believe others, try things yourself. I’m not talking about reinventing the biscycle. Well, maybe I am. Considering the number of different popular bicycles you can see out there. Even re-inventing the bicycle migth be a good idea.
