What problems does your product solve?

Many of us already have products that we want to market. When it’s usual that you find a problem and then create a product to solve this problem, you could easily do it the other way around as well.

Imagine you have a product but you’re not sure yet how to promote it. What’s different about your product? Why is it good? What facts can we use to promote it? What problems does your product solve? Lets take an online magazine, we could use one of my own publications – The Cheers magazine (thecheers.org). It’s a volunteer based magazine with basically no focus, it doesn’t pay anyone but rather has people writing for it for free. Reasons are different – some people write because they like the concept, some write because we answer their applications within 24-72 hours (while other publications might take months to answer, if at all), our requirements for articles are smaller (which of course does result in not so good content sometimes), people are able to express their opinion without the the editor’s opinion getting into the way (variety – you may say you hate Bush, but you can also say you love him).

Now, generally speaking, it’s not so different publication than others. But what problems does it solve? Firstly, imagine you’re writer who wants to get published in some magazine. TheCheers gives you the possibility – as long as you can write interesting articles. Many paying publication require you to have published samples – again, if you have written for us, then you now have published samples. For readers – they can find news with views while many other publications just publish the news they got directly from a news agency, thus the basics are the same in hundreds of different publications. We’re different.

And these are the things that I can now use to promote the magazine better. I could have brought out a lot more problems that the magazine solves, yes, but just to give you some thinking material, I won’t. Or okay, actually I’m sitting in a cafeteria right now and my laptop’s battery is dying any minute now. So .. .Cheers!
